I can't find any info on RGTR's price plan. On Amazon it's $49. Is it going to be like Guild Wars where there's no subscription fee? And if it is subscription, how much per month? I remember some time back RG was saying that TR would cost $25 a month. whoa.

Seems to me that if they're pre-selling the game, they ought to tell us how much it's going to cost.

I can't speak for NCsoft, and am not doing so here. But it will be a subscription based game of some sort, and the price will probably be par for the course with all new MMO games (12-15$) per month. I am not aware of RG ever naming a 25$ price point, nor do I think that's at all likely.

I also don't understand why MMOs always play so coy with their pricepoint up until the last second. They're going to be a 15$ a month game (at first), everyone knows they're going to be a 15$ a month game. I'm not sure what they think they gain by delaying. Perhaps they are just evaluting what sorts of alternate payment options they are going to offer (lifetime subs, bulk time discounts, etc.)

If you guys noticed, I removed the warning tag on the announcement that said the pre-order didn't grant immediate access to the beta, "at this time". I will leave you to ponder the significance of that.

RG has not been coy--he's pretty much said his game is worth the big monthly fee.

Heh. That article is such a wonderful display of corporate hand-wringing and moustache-twirling. I wonder if the guy at the head of the table was stroking a long-haired cat.

A few points.

1) RG never attributed a 20$ + price point to Tabula Rasa. He was speaking in generalities. All he ever said about TR was that they wouldn't be decreasing the price for it.

2) The article is 2 years old.

3) Richard Garriott says lots of stuff. It's what he does.

I have no doubt that some upcoming game will try to break the $15 pricepoint that is only barely tolerated by players, with a lot of simmering hostility, as it is. They will, of course, quickly revert the price when they see how that works out for them. I sincerely doubt Tabula Rasa will be the game they will take their stand on. I think fans of Marvel Online or Warhammer Online, should be much more worried on this issue.

If I'm wrong, you have my permission to boycott the game. ;) I'll be boycotting right beside you.

I bought the pre-order yesterday but I am having trouble registering on their forums. Did anyone else have trouble with the TR forums?

*I* did not. I'm not NC support, but as with all automated forum registration systems, make sure you check any spam/junkmail filters you have for any auto-reply messages that may have been eaten. Beyond that, I suggest you contact support@playNC.com or wherever else your documentation refers you to. A poster in another thread says they were helpful with his situation.

Great visual images there! I can almost hear the BWAHAHAHA of the knave wanting to charge a fortune for a monthly fee.

I think the subscription fee will be par for the industry ($12-$15). I don't know why companies hold onto certain information like it's ultra-top-secret, especially information which most gamers will already have a pretty good feel for.
